B2 is a specialist classroom for KS2 children with ASC at the Windmill Partnership of Broomfield South SILC.
There are currently 5 children in this class with 1 specialist teacher and 2 learning support assistants. All children access mainstream inclusion in the mornings and 2 of them go to mainstream for some after lessons. Of those 2 pupils 1 is in mainstream Year 6 virtually full-time.
Children in B2 have an opportunity to take part in, In Harmony sessions around school. In Harmony is an Opera North community partnership which takes place at Windmill Primary school. All children in B2 have the opportunity to learn an instrument and join in choir.
The children also have access to the Broomfield facilities including Rebound, Sensory Room, kitchen and playground on a Wednesday afternoon.
The classroom is a calm environment with displays of work on the walls which are similar to the styles they will find in their mainstream classes. On entering the classroom you will see TEACCH workstations (http://www.autism.org.uk/about/strategies/teacch.aspx), visual cues and symbols, Autism resources (e.g.. First…then..) and defined areas.
In B2 we try and get out in the community. Below are places we have visited. Click on the link to see what we do on our trips.
