Welcome to Magic Key
Magic key is a specialist class for pupils with a diagnosis of ASC at the Windmill Partnership. We aim to provide a highly structured environment and consistent routine, enhanced by visual supports in order for our pupils to develop and thrive. We constantly work on the fundamentals of communication, social skills and independence.
There are currently 5 pupils in the class (mixed KS1 and KS2 group), one teacher and 2 LSAs. Pupils have access to social inclusion during lunch and playtimes. They can also access inclusion according to their individual needs and interests with 1:1 support.
Pupils in Magic Key use verbal language and PECS symbols to communicate and they need clear structure and visual support. Sensory integration activities and the Intensive interaction approach are used to enhance pupils’ sensory development and develop their communication and social skills. We also use the TEACCH approach with some pupils.
There are occasions during which some of our pupils may present with challenging behaviour. All staff follow the class behaviour guidelines and the individual PHPs.
